Trump shooter at Butler rally identified as 20-year-old Bethel Park native

The FBI has officially identified the man who made an attempt on the life of former President Donald Trump at a presidential rally Saturday, July 13, in Butler County.

The shooter, who was killed at the scene, has been identified as 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks, who lived roughly an hour south of Butler in Bethel Park, in Allegheny County.

The shooting left one man, identified by his family Sunday on social media, dead and two men critically injured.

As of Sunday morning, July 14, no motive has been identified for Crooks’ actions, according to the FBI.

According to a check of Pennsylvania’s records, the man had no identifiable criminal record prior to his attempt on Trump’s life. Secret Service agents shot and killed Crooks at the scene.
