Slippery Rock school district makes a few early hires
A few educational professionals are getting a few weeks’ head start on their work at Slippery Rock Area School District.
The school board had a special meeting Monday, July 15, where its members voted to hire new teachers and fill a new autism support professional position that the board also voted to establish at the meeting.
Alfonso Angelucci, superintendent of Slippery Rock Area School District, said the district scheduled the meeting so the new hires could be approved and start on their work prior to August. The board originally did not have a meeting scheduled between June 24 and July 29.
“It was really to get the folks hired that had gone through our application and hiring process so they could start sooner than the beginning of August,” Angelucci said. “This allows them a couple weeks head start to be beneficial to middle school.”
The position the board voted to create Monday replaces a position the board eliminated at the meeting, a fourth-grade language arts professional position at Moraine Elementary School. Angelucci said the new autism support position covers grades four and five, instead of just grade four.
“There is not a deduction in the total staff; it is to better serve our students,” Angelucci said. “It's different assignments as to what grade levels they'll be seeing. It's really based on the enrollment and case load of students for a particular grade level.”
