Firefighters responded to a Muddy Creek Township gas station Thursday, July 18, for a fire near a fuel tank.

Crews were called to Last Minit Mart at 1651 Perry Highway for a fire. A rubber cap on a fuel tank for the unleaded gasoline caught fire, according to Todd Hinkle, assistant chief of the Portersville Muddy Creek Township Volunteer Fire Department

The fire apparently started when a vehicle drove over the fuel tank and dislodged the cap. The flames were extinguished within 10 minutes

The gas station was shut down as a precaution but was set to reopen once a new cap was installed.

In addition to Portersville Muddy Creek Township VFD, the Prospect Volunteer Fire Department, Slippery Rock Volunteer Fire Company and Rescue Team, and Harmony Fire District responded to the call. Portersville Muddy Creek EMS responded as a precaution. No injuries were reported.
