Medical helicopter called in Route 8 crash
CENTER TWP — A medical helicopter was called Thursday, July 18, following a crash involving a tractor-trailer near the intersection of Route 8 and Concordia Way, near the entrance to the Concordia at the Orchard senior living facility.
The tractor-trailer was seen over a hillside, having apparently crashed through a guardrail. Another vehicle, a Subaru Forester, was visible nearby with heavy front-end damage.
According to Lt. Ryan Crawford of the Unionville Volunteer Fire Company, two people were taken to area hospitals as a result of the crash — one to Butler Memorial Hospital by ambulance and the other to UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh by medical helicopter.
In addition to the Unionville fire company, volunteer fire departments from Center and Butler townships responded to the crash, as did the Pennsylvania State Police and the Butler Ambulance Service.
The extent of those injuries is not yet known, nor is the cause of the crash, which was first reported around 1 p.m.
Traffic was initially delayed in the area around the crash site with vehicles traveling in one lane in both directions.
