This year, Middlesex Township is taking a cue from its neighbors — Butler, Penn and Cranberry townships — in holding a community day of its own when it hosts its first such event on Saturday, Aug. 17. The festivities will center around the township’s community park, near the municipal building on Browns Hill Road.

“We really just wanted to bring the community together, with all the recent development and growth in Middlesex Township,” said township administrative assistant Addie Seibel, who is in charge of planning the event. “We wanted to bring more people into our park, which has been renovated the past few years.”

The community park has received a new playground, walking trail and pavilion and is also in line to receive a new swing set for the playground in the coming weeks. Seibel says that the township is hoping to have the swing set installed in time for the community day event.

According to Seibel, the township has “between 12 to 15” craft vendors lined up so far, as well as five food vendors, and is “looking for more.”

The community day, which runs from noon to 8 p.m., will feature a pet parade, a car show and a cornhole tournament with gift cards awarded to the top three participants. The event also will feature a “kids zone” which will include activities for children, such as face painting, a petting zoo, bounce houses and a foam party.

From 6 to 8 p.m., the rock band Center Stage will provide live music.

A car show will be held across the street at the Middlesex Township Volunteer Fire Company hall, along with a bake sale, a concession stand and bingo.

The Middlesex VFC will display one of their vehicles for a “Touch-a-Truck” to be held in the newly-paved parking lot by the community park, and youngsters also will get a chance to get up close with a LifeFlight helicopter.

According to Seibel, the best place to park for the event will be at the Glade Run Church on Pittsburgh Road, as A.J. Myers & Sons will shuttle guests between there and the community center throughout the event.

There will be no fee to enter the grounds during the community day. For more information, contact Seibel at aseibel@middlesextownship.org.
