BUFFALO TWP — Billy Ray Cyrus provided special music at the Friday, July 19, funeral for Corey Comperatore, the former Buffalo Township fire chief who was killed last weekend while attending the Donald Trump rally.

For most of the funeral, the popular country singer just stood to the side of the altar to pay his respects, according to Roger Kennedy, a longtime member of Cabot Church, but Cyrus later took the microphone to sing a hymn in Comperatore’s honor at the funeral.

“He stayed for the whole service and left after the 21-gun salute,” Kennedy said. “No one announced him or made a big deal out of it.”

Cyrus — the father of Miley Cyrus — posted a photo on his Instagram account of the giant flag hanging from a fire engine at the funeral, and paid his respects to Comperatore, whom he said “gave all.”

The program for Comperatore’s funeral listed Cyrus as providing “special music” for the event.

The former Buffalo Township Volunteer Fire Company chief died at the former president’s campaign rally held Saturday, July 13 at the Butler Farm Show grounds after shielding his daughter and wife from bullets fired.

He was fatally wounded. Three others, including the Trump, were struck by gunfire. Trump was struck in his right ear. The two others were taken to the hospital where they remain in serious condition.

“Corey Comperatore made the ultimate sacrifice,” Cyrus said. “He gave all for his family and his country. It was an honor to be at his service today. You’re all in my prayers.”
