Don McElhaney Sr.
Don C. McElhaney Sr., 91, of Fenelton, passed away on Tuesday, July 16, 2024, at his residence.
He was born on Jan. 26, 1933, in Pittsburgh, to the late John E. “Jay” McElhaney and Sarah J. (Livingston) McElhaney.
Don graduated from Butler High School in 1951. Upon graduation, he went to work at Armco in processing maintenance, where he retired after 41 years of service.
Don was an avid sports enthusiast and enjoyed attending Butler High School sporting events.
He belonged to the Keystone Squares and spent many years traveling and square dancing. Don and his wife, Connie, even attended State Square-Dancing in California and Hawaii. He was a member of Community Alliance Church and volunteered as a front-line greeter.
Don enjoyed reading and his favorite subject was history. Above all, Don loved his family and always supported his grandchildren and great-grandchildren in all their activities.
Surviving are his wife, Connie Y. (McPherson) McElhaney, whom he married on Oct. 8, 1952; two sons, Don C. “Budd” (Louella) McElhaney Jr. and Ralph McElhaney of Fenelton; two daughters, Peggy (Sis) Kollister of Houston, Texas, and Sue (Buzz) Christy of Fenelton; nine grandchildren, Travis (Kelly) McElhaney, Stephanie McElhaney, Cory (Jenn) Kollister, Clint Kollister, Brittany Morrow, Taylor (Ben) Green-Griffith, Elizabeth (Greg) Downey, Eric (Kiley) Christy and Eli (Sarah) Christy; 21 great-grandchildren; one brother, Pete (Kerry) McElhaney of Butler; four sisters, Joyce (Jack) Munsey of Melvin Village, N.H., Sally (Bob) Stern of Hummelstown, Pa., Anne Schaffner of Houston, Texas, and Mary Hughes of Concord, Mass.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Duane McElhaney; one infant great-granddaughter; and two brothers-in-law.
MCELHANEY — A visitation for Don C. McElhaney Sr., who died Tuesday, July 16, 2024, will be held from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday at THOMPSON-MILLER FUNERAL HOME, 124 E. North St., Butler.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home with the Rev. Dr. Denny Krajacic officiating.
A burial will follow at Butler County Memorial Park.
