Post-stroke, Sharon Stone takes art world by storm

People
Sharon Stone

Sharon Stone can act — that we knew. But after her near-fatal brain hemorrhage in 2001, she took up painting, and she’s better than good, according to pal Cheri Kaufman.

“She’s a contemporary artist but she paints whatever she feels; the work is very sensitive,” Kaufman revealed at a Park Avenue luncheon. “After the stroke someone gave her a paint set.”

But the actress became even more prolific during the COVID pandemic. “Today she’s great, not good. She sold out a show last year in Greenwich,” Kaufman added.

All of this spilled at Jean Shafiroff’s annual Bastille Day luncheon held this year at the new Cafe Boulud’s Maison Barnes.

Stone’s oils on canvas can bring up to $60,000 in a gallery and have brought $250,000 at charity auctions. So her basic instincts are still very good.

Bella Hadid

Adidas has pulled images of supermodel Bella Hadid, who’s of Palestinian descent, from its campaign for a retro sneaker inspired by the 1972 Munich Olympics, during which Palestinian attackers infiltrated the Olympic village and killed 11 Israeli athletes.

The German-based sportswear company confirmed on Friday it was “revising” its promotional strategy for the SL72 shoe following fierce backlash sparked by 27-year-old Hadid’s involvement.

Criticism quickly mounted in the days since the campaign appeared online earlier this week, with Israel’s official account on X leading the charge.

“Guess who the face of their campaign is?” the government asked. “Bella Hadid, a half-Palestinian model who has a history of spreading antisemitism and calling for violence against Israelis and Jews.”

“She and her father frequently promote blood libels and antisemitic conspiracies against Jews,” the post continued.

It also referenced the deadly terrorist attack that took place during the Munich Olympics.

On Sept. 5, 1972, eight Palestinians affiliated with the militant group Black September took 11 Israeli Olympic athletes hostage and called for the release of Palestinians held in Israeli and German prisons. While authorities managed to kill five of the eight militants, their rescue attempts were unsuccessful.

The American Jewish Committee also took issue with Adidas’ decision to feature Hadid, saying the use of a “vocal anti-Israel model to recall this dark Olympics is either a massive oversight or intentionally inflammatory.”

“Neither is acceptable,” it added in a post on X.

In response to the backlash, Adidas issued a statement on Friday, saying, “We are conscious that connections have been made to tragic historical events — though these are completely unintentional — and we apologize for any upset or distress caused.”

The images featuring Hadid were then quickly scrubbed from the company’s social media channels.

In the wake of Hamas’ invasion of Israel on Oct. 7, 2023 — which sparked a deadly retaliatory attack— Hadid has been vocal in her support of Palestinians living in the besieged Gaza Strip. She has also donated to campaigns dedicated to providing support for those trapped on the strip.

Hadid has not commented on the Adidas controversy.

The “Originals’ SL72” running shoe campaign was launched on Monday and also features Jules Koundé, rapper A$AP Nast, musician Melissa Bon and model Sabrina Lan. Adidas described the sneaker as “a silhouette initially crafted for road running” and “retro-inspired classic with effortless appeal.”

Jennifer Lopez

NEW YORK — Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck are still wearing their wedding rings amid reported marital issues, even after the pair celebrated their second wedding anniversary on opposite coasts.

The Oscar winner, 51, was photographed with his wedding band on Friday while driving alone in Los Angeles, according to images published by People.

Snaps from Wednesday also showed the 54-year-old singer wearing her massive ring as she went shopping while vacationing in the Hamptons.

The Bronx native on Saturday posted selfies to Instagram in which she appeared to be donning the same white ensemble from Wednesday, captioning the carousel, “Today is gonna be a great day.”

An insider told People on Friday that despite earlier reports the stars are at odds over their different approaches to fame, their marital issues run “deeper” than just celebrity.

“The idea that Ben thinks Jennifer is too famous and that he didn’t know what he was getting into with the attention on their marriage isn’t true,” said the source.

Those remarks came nearly a month after Affleck referred to his wife’s level of celebrity as“f–ing bananas” during his appearance on the fourth season premiere of Kevin Hart’s Peacock show, “Hart to Heart.”

Affleck and Lopez, who wed in July 2022, have remained mum on the status of their relationship, which they reconciled in 2021 — nearly 20 years after calling off their previous engagement.

In recent months, there has been ongoing chatter that fame has certainly played a role in driving a wedge between the couple, who are reportedly living under separate roofs.

Their $60 million Beverly Hills mansion was recently put on the market — with Affleck reportedly moving out while his wife was on vacation— fueling speculation that there’s no saving the widely publicized union.
