Cranberry Township receives $411,000 from Shapiro Administration, PennDOT

Cranberry Township is one of 73 municipalities will receive more than $30 million to support traffic signal upgrades aimed at improving road safety and mobility through that state Department of Transportation’s “Green Light-Go” program.

Gov. Josh Shapiro and PennDOT Secretary Mike Carroll announced the funding Wednesday, July 31.

The program helps municipalities improve congestion and traffic flow by upgrading detection technologies, which allows traffic signals to respond to real-time traffic demand, a news release from PennDOT said.

“Gov. Shapiro has made clear that state government's top priority should be serving the people of our Commonwealth and improving the services we provide that make a difference in Pennsylvanians’ lives, Carroll said. “The safety improvements supported by the Green Light-Go program will help municipalities relieve congestion and traffic flow and keep Pennsylvanians moving safely and efficiently.”

Cranberry Township will receive $68,000 for the update and replacement of two traffic signal cabinets on Route 228, $131,000 to upgrade signal video detection at Route 19, Route 228 and Rochester Road, and $212,000 for the modernization of traffic signal equipment at Route 19 and Cranberry Fire Station No. 2.

“Cranberry Township is appreciative of PennDOT and the administration for awarding these funds through the ‘Green Light-Go’ program. They’re extremely helpful for municipalities to keep their traffic signal equipment up to date,” township manager Dan Santoro said.

Santoro said the traffic lights were targeted for the funding as they are the some of the oldest in the township.

The grants provided by the program are provided as reimbursements to municipalities for updates improving traffic infrastructure. These projects will be funded through the appropriation for fiscal year 2024-25. The projects have not yet been completed, but will be in the future.
