Electric golf cart possible cause of garage fire Tuesday
An electric golf cart is believed to have been the cause of a garage fire during the morning of July 30 at 386 Sun Mine Road in Clinton Township, according to Saxonburg Volunteer Fire Company Chief Chris Dean.
The call for the fire came in at 11:14 a.m. Tuesday morning, Dean said, and, upon arrival, it was determined more help was needed, as 10 fire departments were sent to the call.
“The homeowner was home,” Dean said. “He said they heard a loud pop or explosion in the garage. When they went out to look they have a golf cart in the garage that was plugged in and charging and it was on fire. So that is what the homeowner is assuming started the fire.”
Dean said the garage is attached to the house, which allowed the fire to spread partially to two rooms of the home.
It took fire crews around an hour to get the fire under control Dean said and he is unsure how exactly the golf cart caught fire.
“We stayed on scene until about 3 p.m. just maintaining and checking for hot spots,” Dean said. “Basically babysitting the fire.”
Other responding fire departments, Dean said, included Sarver Volunteer Fire Company; Buffalo Township Volunteer Fire Company; Middlesex Township Volunteer Fire Company; Penn Township Volunteer Fire Department; three West Deer Township departments, Allegheny County; Fawn Township Volunteer Fire Department; and South Buffalo Township Fire Department.
