Zelienople council remains undecided about stormwater authority participation

Councilors in Zelienople on Monday, July 29 put off until their next meeting further discussion of joining Evans City, Harmony and Jackson Township in the proposed Southwest Butler Stormwater Authority.

Meeting attendees during a public comment period Monday brought up concerns regarding current and future development, and how the authority would be funded.

Council member Gregg Semel said residents and businesses would see progress in dealing with flooding issues if the borough joins the authority.

But right now, “what we sense is negativity toward a lot of the unknowns,” Semel said.

“I think it will benefit the residents to reduce flooding impact,” said borough engineer Tom Thompson.

The next meeting will be held Aug. 12 at the Zelienople Municipal Building.
