Kindness, cheerfulness left lasting impression

No sooner had the late Nick Scialabba settled in at his new home at the VA, God called upon this special human being to spread the expression of joy in Heaven that he so admirably mastered on Earth.

Like so few others who attended our weekly Friday breakfast, for over two decades as Nick entered the dining room, he greeted the group with a friendly smile and gesture.

When speaking, most members recall their personal experiences. On occasion, when the moment dictated, Nick would call attention to the skill or ability of another attendee. Before he left the building, he would circle the breakfast table in search of a farewell handshake.

May the good Lord bless and keep you, Nick. You will be sadly missed here on Earth, where there is a shortage of cheerful men like you.

By the way, old pal, please check out my conduct report to see what my chances are. If somebody up there likes me, I’ll be seeing you.

Geno Mariotti, Butler
