Butler man arrested for auto theft from Franklin Township gas station
A Butler man is facing charges after police say he stole a vehicle that was left running at a convenience store early Tuesday, Aug. 6, in Franklin Township.
Logan McPeak, 19, was charged with felonies theft by unlawful taking and receiving stolen property and cited for driving without a license, and he was placed in the county prison in lieu of $5,000 bail.
According to state police, a 40-year-old Butler man left the keys inside his running vehicle at the GetGo on New Castle Road at 4:32 a.m.
McPeak saw the running vehicle and stole it, police said.
Butler Township police then discovered the vehicle parked at McPeak’s home, and McPeak also was found there and arrested. The vehicle was recovered, police said.
His preliminary hearing has been scheduled for Wednesday, Aug. 14, before District Judge Joseph Nash in Slippery Rock.
