Former employee sued for alleged embezzlement
The insurance provider of a Zelienople business has sued a former company employee to recover more than $60,000 the insurer claims he embezzled, mostly to pay for online gaming and sports gambling.
The Cincinnati Insurance Co. of Ohio filed the suit Monday, Aug. 5, against Andrew Bakken of Allentown in Butler County Common Pleas Court.
Bakken worked as a sales representative for power equipment sales company A&H Equipment of Zelienople from May 2, 2016, until he was terminated Jan. 16, according to the complaint.
Using a credit card that was supposed to be used for business purposes only, Bakken made charges totaling $64,658 from Dec. 21, 2023, through Jan. 13 for his benefit without authorization, according to the suit. That amount includes A&H’s $1,000 deductible.
The vast majority of the charges were made at the online casino and sportsbook FanDuel, according to the complaint.
The suit contains counts of fraud and conversion.
Bakken, who has not been charged with a criminal offense, could not be reached for comment.
