Helicopter called to Moniteau high school for construction injury
A milling machine being used to tear black top at Moniteau Jr./Sr. High School ran over a construction worker’s foot and leg Thursday morning, Aug. 8, leading the man to be transported to UPMC Presbyterian by a medical helicopter.
Reid Campbell, chief of West Sunbury Volunteer Fire Department, said Thursday that the department responded to the accident, after other construction workers applied a tourniquet to the injured man’s leg to stop the bleeding.
Campbell said crews from West Sunbury VFD arrived to the scene shortly after being called at around 10:50 a.m. Thursday.
“(The machine) was repositioning, and the worker’s foot and leg were run over by the track,” Campbell said. “We arrived to give minor treatment to him, and we called the helicopter to send him to (UPMC) Presbyterian.”
Marion Township Volunteer Fire Company also responded to the scene. Responders cleared the scene about an hour after the incident was reported, according to a news release from the Butler County 911 Center.
