3 charged after shots fired during altercation

Three people are facing charges after police said an argument led to two people pointing hand guns at each other’s heads and two shots were fired in a struggle over one of those weapons in an Oakland Township home.

Mandy S. Yeager, 49, of Butler, Takyiah L. Moore, 22, of Braddock, and Christopher J. Garrett, 36, of Braddock, were charged by state police following the July 19 incident at Yeager’s home.

Troopers responded to the home on Chicora Road just after 2 a.m. about 15 minutes after the homeowners called the barracks and reported an ongoing physical altercation, police said in an affidavit.

Moore and Garrett had been staying at the home of Mandy and Lee Yeager for about two weeks. After Mandy Yeager dropped off Moore and Garrett at a nearby bar on the evening of July 18, she noticed $260 was missing and called Garrett, who denied any involvement, police said.

Lee Yeager picked up the pair from the bar and brought them back to the house early July 19. After an argument began on the front porch, Mandy Yeager got her gun from her bedroom. She told police she put the gun in her back pocket.

The argument moved inside into the kitchen and Mandy Yeager told the pair they had to leave, police said. She told police Garrett got angry, brandished a gun and pointed it at her head.

Garrett told police Mandy Yeager drew her gun first and pointed it at his head before he drew his gun, police said.

Moore then began fighting with Mandy Yeager over the gun, and Lee Yeager put Garrett in a choke hold in an effort to disarm him, police said. During the fight, one shot was fired from Mandy Yeager’s gun as both women had their hands on it, police said.

Lee Yeager removed Garrett from the house while Garrett still had his gun, but Mandy Yeager and Moore continued fighting over Yeager’s gun and a second shot was fired while both had their hands on it, police said.

Lee Yeager disarmed the women and placed the gun out of reach, but the women kept fighting, police said.

Moore then grabbed a coffee pot and used it to hit Mandy Yeager in the head several times. Yeager picked up broken pieces of glass and tried to use them against Moore, police said.

Garrett came back in the house without his gun and he and Lee Yeager separated the women, police said.

Moore and Mandy Yeager were treated for injuries at Butler Memorial Hospital.

Police said bullet holes were found in the kitchen floor and front door, and one fired bullet was retrieved from an adjacent bedroom floor.

Mandy Yeager was charged with two counts of simple assault and recklessly endangering another person; Garrett was charged with simple assault, reckless endangerment and tampering with evidence; and Moore was charged with simple assault and reckless endangerment.

Preliminary hearings before District Judge Lewis Stoughton had yet to be scheduled as of Friday.
