Licensed practical nurse Mary Anne McConahy with the VA Butler Healthcare System Lawrence County Community Based Outpatient Clinic was recently honored with The DAISY Award For Extraordinary Nurses.

The award is part of the DAISY Foundation's programs to recognize the efforts nurses perform every day.

“Mary Anne has taken my husband under her wing. She is kind and supportive,” the nomination submitted for McConahy read. “She always has a smile on her face at our appointments. At times, it isn't easy to get my husband moving.”

The DAISY Foundation was established by family members in memory of J. Patrick Barnes, who died at the age of 33 in late 1999 from complications of an autoimmune disease called idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura.
