AMC, South Pike Cinemas sever ties
South Pike Cinemas is ending its relationship with AMC Theatres this month, but the 10-screen movie theater will continue to show films once the building’s landlord can get it back up and running, hopefully in September.
Nick Mulone, owner of the property at 718 S. Pike Road in Buffalo Township, said Wednesday, Aug. 14, AMC Theatres has chosen not to renew its lease on the building and will move out by the end of this month. However, the property owner said he plans to reopen the theater and rehire whichever employees he can in September.
“They said their last day is supposed to be tomorrow, but their lease doesn't expire until the end of the month,” Mulone said Wednesday. “(The theater will) open some time in September. It will be closed because we have to get the (operating) system and so forth back in it.”
Mulone said the theater was built in 2002, and it previously housed Carmike Cinemas before that company was purchased by AMC. South Pike Cinemas converted into an AMC theater in 2018, according to Mulone.
He said people who have gift cards or other AMC materials will have to use them at alternate AMC locations. However, he said he intends to keep the building as a movie theater.
“I’d like to rehire the employees, we're going to open it back up as a movie theater,” Mulone said.
