Miller Minutes

Miller Minutes with Butler Eagle reporter, Molly Miller

The end of summer is drawing near, but I’m doing my best to keep the feeling of the season alive.

It is possible to feel the freedom of summer for just a little longer, despite the back-to-school displays and annoying emails swirling. How, you may ask? With a little help from The Beach Boys (and other artists like them).

I believe certain kinds of music can keep you stuck in one place or project you to another. So when The Beach Boys said “we’ve been having fun all summer long” during one of my commutes, I felt it my duty to keep summer going.

Without further ado, I’d like to present you with a few songs I believe should be staples of the “Stay in Summer” playlist:

√ “All Summer Long” by The Beach Boys

√ “Take a Chance on Me” by ABBA

√ “California Dreamin’” by The Mamas and the Papas

√ “I Saw Her Standing There” by The Beatles

√ “I’m a Believer” by The Monkees

√ “Sleep Walk” by Santo and Johnny

√ “Surfin’ USA” by The Beach Boys

√ “Blue Moon” by Elvis Presley

√ “Twist and Shout” by The Beatles

√ “More than a Woman” by the Bee Gees

These are just suggestions, but as you can see, The Beatles, The Monkees, and any kind of surf rock or funk makes me feel like summer. Whatever keeps you in the happy-go-lucky spirit only this season can bring, I’d encourage you to put in the effort, make a playlist of your own, and keep enjoying this beautiful weather.

While you shouldn’t entirely shirk your incoming autumn responsibilities, I do think you should try to relax and enjoy yourself for the few weekends we have left her. Maybe attending one of the events below will help you stay in the spirit.
