BUFFALO TWP — Prior to next month’s monthly meeting Sept. 11, the board of supervisors will hold a public hearing on potential new ordinances regarding solar energy systems and disruptive properties.

According to Ron Zampogna, chairman, the two ordinances represent items which the residents of Buffalo Township would like to see addressed.

“I think it was just more interest from township residents wanting or looking for direction if they want to get something like a solar panel on their roof or something to that degree,” Zampogna said.

According to township solicitor Brian Farrington, the zoning ordinance already addresses solar energy systems. However, he said it would make more sense to implement a separate ordinance regarding solar energy systems.

“This would just be to cover solar farms and accessory uses such as solar panels on someone’s roof,” Farrington said.

Farrington defined a “disruptive property” as a property that has had someone arrested there on at least three occasions within a certain time, and said during the meeting other municipalities have similar ordinances on their books.

“The township occasionally receives calls that there’s a disruption here or there,” Zampogna said. “So we want to have rules in place so we can send out the police department.”

Prior to next month’s meeting, there also will be a public hearing on the approval of a conditional use application for a proposed commercial dog kennel on a 27.9-acre plot of land on Sarver Road.
