Russell Morrow
Russell E. “Russ” Morrow, 94, of Butler, passed away at Concordia Lutheran Ministries in Cabot on Saturday, Aug. 10, 2024.
Born Sept. 17, 1929, on Lyon Avenue in Butler, he was the son of the late George Dewey and the late Maye Viola Morrow.
Russ attended Center Avenue, Jefferson Street, and Butler Junior/Senior High schools. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. Russ earned a business degree at Carnegie Tech and an electrical engineering degree from Grove City College. He went on to work at Armco and retired in 1989 after 30 years.
Russ loved the outdoors and was an environmentalist. He volunteered time and donated money to the Macoskey Center in Slippery Rock. Russ owned 50 acres of land in Jefferson Township where he planted a plethora of pine trees that are still present today. He was a member of Summit Church, a board member in the Butler chapter of the Salvation Army and a lifelong resident of Butler. Russ was an avid baseball and football fan and always listened to the games on the radio. He was an intelligent man who loved to read books. Above all else, Russ was an amazing father, husband and grandfather.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Sue Morrow, whom he married on Aug. 3, 1960; his three daughters, Jennifer Piccari of Wesley Chapel, Fla., Leslie Morrow of Butler and Erin Hajec and her husband, John, of Saxonburg; and his two grandchildren, Alyssa (Piccari) Mortenson and her husband Sean of Plant City, Fla., and Matthew Hajec of Saxonburg.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to his caregiver, Janet Lehnerd, all of the staff at Butler Memorial Hospital, and to all of the wonderful people at Concordia who helped him in many ways over the last year of his life.
Russ was a kind and gentle soul that will be missed dearly by his family, friends and anyone who had the chance to get to know him. Until we meet again.
