Institute Hill playground takes home 1970 Rotary Cup

With a score of 153 points over the summer of 1970, the members of Institute Hill playground’s Rotary Cup competition team took home the grand prize on Aug. 19, 1970.

The seven playgrounds in Butler each had a team that competed against one another in sporting events and activities over the summer, all vying to win individual events and earn points for the grand prize, the Rotary Cup.

Institute Hill’s score of 153 points over the summer was the highest score ever for the league up to 1970.

Butler’s recreation director, Art Monteleone, presented trophies the city purchased to all team members whose team won in the major events. The winners also got claim to the Rotary Cup for the year.
