Submissions for the VA Butler Healthcare’s annual Veterans Creative Arts Festival are due by Friday, Aug. 23, and the event itself will take place Sept. 13.

The VA’s fourth annual Veterans Creative Arts Festival is from 1 to 6 p.m. Sept. 13 at the American Legion Post 778. The competition includes five divisions, which include music, art, creative writing, drama and dance. The annual competition recognizes the progress and recovery made through creative therapies and raises the visibility of the creative achievements of veterans, according to a news release from the Butler VA.

All finalists in the competition advance to compete in the National Veterans Creative Arts Competition. From there, all first-place winners in the national competition are invited to the National Veterans Creative Arts Festival the following April.

Veterans and the public may view all the creative art submissions from local veterans competing this year at the event Sept. 13. Veterans will be performing their music and creative writing submissions live 4 to 6 p.m.
