Butler County high school sports roundup: Butler girls tennis stays unbeaten, Mars girls golf wins
Butler girls tennis beat Knoch 4-1 Friday to continue a strong start to the season.
The Golden Tornado’s Laini Spohn swept Alexandria Jones 6-0, 6-1 in Singles 1, and Sophia Kingsley beat Alaina Mooney in a thrilling Singles 2 match 7-6, 8-10, 10-4. Butler, which improved to 3-0 and 1-0 in section play, also got doubles wins from Maggie Bodamer/Olivia Porneluzi and Cassie Busler/Lindsey Lipp.
Hampton knocked off Seneca Valley 3-2. SV’s Sydney Blucher and Cady Shea won their singles matches; Blucher claimed a 6-3, 5-7, 7-6 victory in Singles 2 over Arianna Barbera, and Shea topped Mackenzie McGinnis 2-6, 6-4, 6-0 in Singles 3. The Raiders fell to 1-2 on the season.
Kiski Area beat Freeport 209-222 in boys golf action Friday at Willowbrook Country Club, handing the Yellowjackets (5-1) their first loss of the season. Kiski’s Max Mottura had a nine-hole low round of 3-over 39. Freeport was led by Ethan Crooks’ 41, with Cam Zigo (42), Aiden Bauman (45), Carson Kane (46) and Stephen Evans (48) rounding out the scoring.
Mars girls golf edged Shaler 200-214 on Friday. Makenna Myler paced the planets with a nine-hole round of 47. Addison Pangonis shot a 50, Elise Wadas carded 51 and Addie Nailler 52.
Knoch boys soccer dropped its season opener to Taylor Allderdice 2-0. No stats were provided.
