Temperatures in Butler County surpassed average rates for the season Tuesday, Aug. 28.
If it stays dry Wednesday — despite possible showers — the heat may continue, said National Weather Service meteorologist Matt Brudy.
While Eastern Ohio saw record-setting temperatures for the season Tuesday, the heat in Butler County hit a high of 93 degrees, Brudy said, or 8 to 10 degrees above average. The high Wednesday is expected to be 90 degrees, he said.
Brudy said while the heat will continue to climb above average temperatures by 5 to 10 degrees, the rest of the week will be milder, with highs in the mid-to-upper 80s Thursday and Friday.
County residents Tuesday also were met with a Code Orange air quality alert due to increased levels of ozone. Ozone levels built with “an abundance of sunshine and temperatures in the lower to middle 90s,” the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection said.
Code Orange indicates that air pollution will reach unhealthy levels for vulnerable groups, including children and the elderly.
