High school sports roundup: Moniteau, Butler girls volleyball victorious; Karns City girls soccer wins big

Moniteau girls volleyball didn’t allow Forest a point in the first set of Tuesday night’s sweep. The Warriors dominated the game 25-0, with Sophia Fleeger offering every serve, and took the following two by scores of 25-20 and 25-16 for a 3-0 sweep.

Fleeger finished with 10 aces and a pair of kills, Emily Matz three aces and four kills, and Sydney Bayless three aces and four kills.

Butler 3, Cathedral Prep 1 — The Golden Tornado won the road match by set scores of 25-19, 27-29, 25-21, 25-22. Audrey Lehman led Butler with 17 kills and five digs, and Brynne Cornibe chipped in 11 kills and a block.

Karns City 3, North Clarion 0 — The Gremlins won a competitive match by scores of 31-29, 25-22, 25-23. Naomi Venesky had three aces, eight kills, two blocks and six digs in the win. Addison Fox added three aces, a kill and eight assists.

Conneaut Area 3, Slippery Rock 1 — Marissa Metzka had nine kills and CJ Sabo five blocks, but the Rockets dropped the final three sets of the match. The scores were 25-21, 15-25, 21-25 and 17-25.

Zoey Pankratz had 21 assists and Lexi Plesakov 22 digs in the defeat.

Seneca Valley 3, Hempfield 0 — No other details were provided for the Raiders’ win.

Girls Soccer

A lot of Gremlins got on the stat sheet Tuesday night as Karns City downed Punxsutawney 10-3 on the girls soccer pitch.

Hanna Dailey led with four goals, Katelyn VanDyke added another pair, and Bella Shields, Phoebe Brandon, Layla Colsey and Ava Kamenski also scored. Carleigh Lucas had two assists, and Aubrey Price, Trinity McFarland, Brandon and Kamenski one apiece. Colsey had two helpers, as well.

Boys Soccer

Slippery Rock boys soccer cruised to a 4-0 win over Wilmington on Tuesday. Mick Olshansky scored two goals in the win, and Matt Kovacik had a goal and assist. The Rockets (1-1) led 3-0 at the half, and Josh Brook recorded two saves.

Boys Golf

North Allegheny 176, Knoch 208 — Jeremy Scheidt paced the Knights with a 37 in this clash at Saxon Golf Course. Aaron Voltz followed with a 38.

Girls Golf

Moniteau finished four strokes short of first place in a District 9 Mega Match with Cranberry, Keystone and A-C Valley on Tuesday. Cara Roxberry carded a 51 for the Warriors and Hayden Hilliard and Juliette Brown each had a 53.

Cranberry came out on top with a score of 153, while Moniteau had a 157.

Butler 170, Shaler 205 — Paige Ponteous and Macie McLister led the Golden Tornado with a 38 and 42, respectively, at Hiland Golf Course. Butler (5-3, 4-2) next hits the links Thursday against Seneca Valley.

Mars 185, Seneca Valley 209 — The Planets’ Makenna Myler had a 42 and Elise Wadas a 45 in the win.

Girls Tennis

Lacey Kern won her first varsity singles match, but Mars dropped a match to Hampton 4-1. The Planets are back in action Wednesday with a section matchup against North Hills.
