County commissioners to consider moving Concord Township precinct

Current location has structural damage

Butler County Commissioners will vote to approve a temporary move of a voting precinct in Concord Township, because of a structural issue at the township’s only polling place.

Chantell McCurdy, director of the Butler County Elections Bureau, said at the commissioners’ meeting Wednesday, Aug. 28, that the Concord Presbyterian Church has some structural damage that might not be repaired by the Nov. 5 General Election. She asked the commissioners to consider moving the polling place to the North Washington Volunteer Fire Department, which is a polling place for Washington Township.

McCurdy emphasized that the move would be temporary, and the bureau of elections would have enough time to mail letters to all voters in Concord Township to notify them of the location change, so long as the commissioners vote at their next public meeting.

The commissioners said there already is another voting precinct in the North Washington fire hall.

The commissioners also voted to award a contract for roof repair services on the county 911 center and emergency services building at the Sunnyview complex to Clark Contractors, at a cost of $227,173.

Michael Hillwig, facilities and operations director, told the commissioners that the roof shingles are in need of replacement. He said the roof repair would be needed before any more damage occurs, because leakage could damage the radio and electrical equipment used in the 911 center.

“The roofs are at least 20 years old,” Hillwig said. “We did like a survey two years ago on the condition of the roof, the south sides have got a lot of superficial cracking in them.”
