High school sports roundup: Christy’s big night leads Mars girls volleyball; Seneca Valley golf tops Knoch

Cecilia Christy and Rylee Wooldridge had big games offensively as Mars girls volleyball pulled out a 3-1 win over Shaler by set scores of 25-23, 18-25, 28-26, 25-22.

Christy had 12 kills and Wooldridge 11, with setter Hailey Duker dishing out 33 assists in the win. Christy also added five blocks, as did Lily Javor, and Alaiana Graham had 14 digs for the 2-0 Planets.

A-C Valley 3, Union 0 — Madelyn Dehart led the Falcons with seven kills and four aces in a sweep of the rival Knights by set scores of 25-15, 25-17, 25-8. Malia Page chipped in five kills, two aces and two digs, and Lexi Altman added six aces, two kills, five assists and three digs.

Boys Golf

Freeport 196, St. Joe’s 246 — Ethan Crooks and Carson Kane tied for the lowest nine-hole rounds of the day in the Yellowjackets’ victory at Buffalo Golf Course, carding 2-over 38s. Aiden Bauman chipped in a 39 as well as Freeport improved to 7-1 (6-0 section).

Seneca Valley 200, Knoch 222 — Brody Pirt shot a 3-over 38 at Butler Country Club, leading the Raiders to victory. Marcos Lopez was one shot behind with a 39, and Knoch’s Aaron Voltz also carded a 39.

Girls Tennis

Seneca Valley 3, Sewickley Academy 2 — A doubles sweep and Cady Shea’s Singles 3 win of 6-0, 6-0 over Isabella Zuluaga was enough to secure the Raiders’ third win of the season. Anna Coon and Gianna Guandolo swept their Doubles 1 match, as did Emily Merola and Gia Medici in Doubles 2.

Mars 4, North Hills 1 — The Planets improved to 4-2 (2-1 section). Grace Nam and Grace McMichael won their Singles 2 and Singles 3 matches, respectively. Bella Pazzaglia/Elaina Reigler and Lacey Kern/Grace Getsy also picked up doubles victories.
