Seneca Valley to honor veterans at football game

Cameron Grubbs, a senior and member of the Seneca Valley Varsity Raiders football team, shakes hands with Harmony resident and U.S. Army Lt. Col. Richard Voegtly during the Veteran Recognition Day last year. This year's event, which recognizes active and retired military personnel from the Seneca Valley communities, is set for the first home football game Sept. 8.

The Seneca Valley School District will host a special Veteran Recognition Day on Sept. 6, during the Raiders’ home football game against Pine-Richland.

At 5:30 p.m., prior to warmup, football team members will gather outside the Raiders Fieldhouse locker room, where American flag stickers will be placed on their helmets.

During a pregame ceremony at 6:30 p.m., veterans will gather on the NexTier Stadium track and be recognized for their service. Veterans attending, along with one guest, will receive free admission and special seating and parking for the game.

Veterans interested in attending should send their name, address, phone number, rank and years of service to Linda Andreassi, Seneca Valley School District Communications, 124 Seneca School Road, Harmony, PA 16037, or email andreassill@svsd.net by Friday, Aug. 30.
