Hoffman Auto worth celebrating

I greatly appreciated reading your story regarding Hoffman Auto Parts published in the Butler Eagle on Sunday, Aug. 25.

For me and my family, Hoffman’s celebration of 100 years as a Butler business was built, in a large part, upon the character of the Hoffman family. My father and his older brother before him were in the auto repair business, my dad part-time and his brother, Ray, full-time. Hoffman’s helped small businesses thrive by offering interest-free credit accounts.

Unfortunately, Uncle Ray passed away at a very young age in 1949. Dad gathered together enough money to clear his brother’s account, which at the time was a substantial amount.

Rather than accept payment, Mr. Hoffman wrote a receipt noting Paid-in-Full and said “Ray left behind three young children, his wife is going to need that money — give it to her.”

We believe the character and kind spirit of the Hoffman family contributes to this day as a successful business in the Butler community.

With respect and appreciation,

David K. Monsour, Butler
