John Hindman Jr., 83, of Butler, passed away on Saturday, Aug. 31, 2024.

He was born in Butler on Oct. 28, 1940, and was the son of the late John Sr. and Joanne (Bissell) Hindman.

John graduated from Butler High School in 1958 and honorably served in the U.S. Marine Corps for four years. He retired from Armco after 37 years. John was the secretary at the William H. Miller Lodge 769 F&AM and was a member of the Shriners for over three decades; he also was a past president of the American Legion Post 642 in Chicora.

John was known for being a loving and great husband and father who would help anyone who needed it. He loved to golf and watch the Steelers. He also loved his El Camino, which he enjoyed taking to car shows.

John was the father of Melissa Hindman, Dawn (William) Norton and Vance (Stacy) Hindman; brother of George “Buddy” (Carol) Hindman and Dennis (Gertrude) Hindman; grandfather of Stephanie (Larry) Minto, Christian (Jess) Fry Jr., Joshua (Larissa) Fry, William Norton, Brayden Norton, Toni (Alec) Damico and Greg Reddick; and great-grandfather of six great-grandchildren.

Along with his parents, John was preceded in death by his first wife, of 27 years, Glenda (Bowser) Hindman, who passed in 1990; and his second wife, Phyllis (Young) Hindman, who passed away in 2019; his two sons, John and Roger Hindman; and his siblings, Eileen and Keith Hindman.

HINDMAN — Family and friends of John Hindman Jr., who died Saturday, Aug. 31, 2024, will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at SPENCER D. GEIBEL FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, 140 New Castle Road, Butler.

A Masonic service will be held at 5:45 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home with full military honors.

The burial will be held privately at Butler County Memorial Park Cemetery.
