Summer may be coming to a close, but there are still plenty of things to do at Moraine and McConnells Mill state parks this September.

Sept. 12

Check out all of the waterfalls in McConnells Mill State Park, on a long hike starting from Alpha Falls through to Kildoo Falls, and finally to Breakneck Falls. The hike is roughly three miles and has some rough sections, so be sure to bring sturdy footwear for this one. The “Waterfall to Waterfall Hike” starts at 10 a.m. from the Kildoo Picnic Area.

Sept. 18

Explore the Shannon Run area of Lake Arthur by paddle with staff of Moraine State Park, and witness some of the nearby ospreys and eagles. Meet at the 528 boat launch. A limited number of kayaks are available, but participants can bring their own. Life jackets are required. This event is open to ages 12 and older; those younger than 18 must be accompanied by an adult.

Sept. 24

Moraine State Park, along with the Todd Bird Club, is hosting a Fall Warbler Bird Walk at the Barbers Point section of the North Shore of the park. Be on the lookout for warblers, shorebirds, and terns. The park will have binoculars if you can’t bring your own.

A list of other September events at Moraine and McConnells Mill is available in the Thursday, Aug. 29 edition of the Butler Eagle.
