Police sniff out alleged fragrance thieves

Cranberry Township police charged three out-of-state men with working together to steal $3,320 in fragrances from a department store.

Joel Peralta-Soto, 23, and Leonardo Soto-Botero, 23, both of Garfield, N.J., and Santiago Padilla-Poveda, 18, of Flushing, N.Y., were charged last week with felonies organized retail theft, conspiracy to commit organized retail theft and receiving stolen property following the alleged March 3 theft from Kohl’s department store.

Kohl’s loss prevention supervisor contacted police in April and reported that the three men were involved with stealing Sol de Janeiro fragrances from the store in the township, according to an affidavit.

Loss prevention staff told police the men entered the store, split up, went to the fragrance section, put 75 small bottles of fragrance valued at $24 apiece and 40 small bottles of a fragrance valued at $38 apiece into white tote bag and walked out of the store with Padilla-Poveda carrying the bag, according to an affidavit. They left in a navy blue Honda Odyssey, police said.
