Porch burns in Center Township fire early Wednesday morning
A porch caught fire early Wednesday morning, Sept. 4, leaving the outdoor space to be considered a total loss, but the attached house remains intact and inhabitable, according to an assistant chief of Unionville Volunteer Fire Company.
Shaun Milkovich, of the Unionville fire company, said members of the fire company found the porch fully engulfed in flames and saw the house’s occupants had safely evacuated upon their arrival. The fire was reported at around 4 a.m.
“The exterior was fully involved with minimal involvement onto the house,” Milkovich said.
Milkovich said crews were able to extinguish the fire quickly and the cause of the fire seemed to be accidental. He said it’s believed to have been caused by a cigarette.
According to Milkovich, the house was not damaged in the fire, and the occupants were able to go back inside once the fire was out. He estimated the loss of the porch at between $10,000 and $15,000.
It took crews about 45 minutes to clear the scene, Milkovich said.
