Knoch school board hears latest on construction project as school year begins

In the first school board meeting since the start of Knoch’s school year, board members heard an update on the ongoing high school renovation and addition project.

While the number of items on the agenda for the short 30-minute work session on Wednesday, Sept. 4, was limited, the list of “finished” tasks related to the renovation was lengthy.

According to the Wednesday update from Eckles Construction Services, installation of a new track surface is complete and chain link fences have been put in place around both the track and the stadium. A 4-foot high fence was installed around the track, and an exterior 6-foot high fence was installed at the stadium.

Additionally, a sidewalk running parallel to Knoch Road was poured, a drive lane outside the gymnasium entrance was paved, and partition walls were installed in the building’s second floor restrooms.

The update listed more than a dozen newly completed tasks, while noting that work will continue, too. Work to hang ductwork inside the commons area has started, the list of updates on the meeting agenda noted.

The school board pushed voting on most agenda items to the next board meeting, but did approve two new hires at the middle school, speech and language pathologist Danielle LeDonne and school nurse Tanya Zupanchick. The starting date for the new employees is still to be determined.

The next meeting of the board will take place at Knoch Middle School at 7 p.m. Sept 11.

Some items that will be voted on include the contract hiring of a technology consultant and the possible salary increase for Knoch School District police.
