Oakland Township man arrested after domestic dispute turns violent

A Chicora man is facing criminal charges after police say he strangled his fiancée, pointed a gun at her and assaulted her and their two young children.

Dalton L. Moyer, 26, of Chicora, was arrested on Tuesday, Sept. 3, and charged with felony strangulation, as well as simple assault, harassment, endangering the welfare of children and terroristic threats.

Police said Moyer’s fiancée told them the two got into an argument that turned into a physical altercation.

According to the police report, Moyer strangled the woman to the point where she felt she was losing consciousness, and only let go after she scratched at him.

Police said Moyer later shoved his fiancée while she was holding her 1-year-old daughter, causing the child to strike her head.

He is also accused of loading his gun and threatening to kill her in front of their children, as well as of shoving their 2-year-old daughter aside and causing her to strike her head on the floor.

Moyer left the home and fired a single shot before leaving. He was arrested hours later.

Moyer’s preliminary hearing is scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 10, in front of District Judge Lewis E. Stoughton. His bail is set at $100,000.
