Butler County high school football roundup Week 3: Weather impacts multiple games; SRHS, Moniteau lose
Karns City football’s bid for a 3-0 start will have to wait.
Friday’s home tilt against St. Marys was postponed due to severe weatherthat forced delays, cancellations and postponements of games in Butler County and beyond.
The Gremlins’ (2-0) game was delayed even before kickoff because of lightning and wasn’t called off until around 8:05 p.m. Officials from both teams were attempting to reschedule the game as of Friday night, but no makeup date had been set.
It was a similar scene for other Butler County teams.
Seneca Valley’s home game with Pine-Richland was canceled and will not be made up. The same is true for Fox Chapel vs. Knoch, which actually saw the Foxes up 13-7 in the second quarter before lightning suspended play. Eventually the game was canceled and will not be made up.
Multiple local games were postponed. Quaker Valley at Freeport, which was suspended with 6:12 left in the first quarter with the score tied 0-0, will be continued at 10 a.m. Saturday. Union/A-C Valley’s road game against Keystone will resume at 6 p.m. Saturday. And North Catholic at Blackhawk will be played at 11 a.m. Saturday.
No report from Summit Academy’s road game at Freedom was provided.
Sharon 42, Slippery Rock 0 — Ethan Engelmore connected with tight end Bryson Roberson on two touchdown passes to open the game and the Tigers were on their way to a District 10, Region 4 victory against the visiting Rockets.
Slippery Rock (1-2, 0-1) plays at rival Grove City next Saturday.
Punxsutawney 42, Moniteau 0 — This game was called with five minutes left in the third quarter. The Warriors fall to 0-3.
