Mary McAllister

McAllister

Mary Blumling McAllister, of Center Township, returned to her eternal home in spirit on Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2024, as the result of a spectacular accident on the stage of Radio City Music Hall in New York City, where she had recently been invited to perform in her reprised role of head Rockette. After a dozen days of high kicks and standing ovations, her heavily bejeweled and feathered headdress caused her to tumble from the top of a steep stage staircase. Perhaps. Or perhaps she peacefully departed this life from Butler, via complications of leukemia. In which case, she was blessed to live well with this condition for a number of years.

Mary felt very peaceful about her upcoming transition; and she was awed and humbled by the grace of God, which allowed her to look forward in faith to the next phase of her most excellent grand adventure.

She is survived by her husband H.Y. “Mac” McAllister, to whom she was long devoted.

Mary grew up in Cabot, as the happy and fortunate daughter of the late Robert G. and Violet Blumling, along with her mutually loyal brother, Robert J. Blumling of Pittsburgh. Mary's extended family of grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins were also very important in her life.

Mary was the eccentric, proud aunt of Amy Blumling Shen of Columbus. She was privileged to be the stepmother of Sheila (Wayne) Scott of Boston and the late Charles “Stuart” McAllister of Phoenix, who sadly predeceased her in 2005.

Mary was honored to be Grandma to Clement and Charlotte Scott of Boston; and Ian, Vincent, Blayne (Laurel) and Rilee McAllister and Malissa (Juni) Cheslic, all of Phoenix. Six great-grandchildren also survive.

Mary's cherished sisterhood of friends brought her an abundance of happy times, laughter and support throughout her lifetime.

During her long career, she also appreciated the sincere friendship of the many valued clients who greatly enhanced her life.

She happily anticipated the reunion with her numerous departed loved ones who now welcome her home, including her cousin, Linda; sister-in-law, Karen; and countless treasured friends.

Mary leaves us with these words: “Here are things you must omit, when writing my obit: Please don’t say I lost the fight, or battled bravely against the night. Death is not my enemy and living’s not a war. We simply leave this earthly realm and move on to something more.”
