Middlesex crash leads to fuel spill, no injuries

No one was injured but fuel was spilled after a collision between a tanker truck carrying diesel fuel and an SUV on Thursday evening, Sept. 5.

The incident was first reported shortly before 6 p.m., and occurred near the intersection of Route 228 and Pittsburgh Road in Middlesex Township, near the Middlesex Crossing shopping area.

Crews from PennDOT and the Middlesex Township fire and police departments responded to the scene and placed down Oil-Dri and sand.

“All lanes were shut down for a brief period,” said Collin Lawson, Middlesex Township Police officer. “We shut down all lanes of traffic and PennDOT came in and spread a sand over the oil.”

Lawson added that the scene was cleared and the road completely opened by 7:45 p.m. There was no word on how much fuel was spilled or what damage it may have caused.
