Cranberry Township to host Sept. 11 remembrance ceremony

The Cranberry Township Volunteer Fire Department will pay tribute to the lives lost in the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, 2001, with a remembrance event on Wednesday, Sept. 11.

The ceremony will be held from 8 to 11 a.m. at the fire station, located at 20727 Route 19 in Cranberry Township. There will be parking behind the fire station.

Cranberry Township Fire Department Assistant Chief John Pristas will play “Taps” in front of the Sept. 11 Memorial at six separate times to mark the substantial loss of life on one of the country’s darkest days:

  • 8:46 a.m., American Flight 11 hits the North Tower of the World Trade Center
  • 9:03 a.m., United Flight 175 crashes into the South Tower
  • 9:40 a.m., American Flight 77 crashes into the Pentagon
  • 9:59 a.m., World Trade Center’s South Tower collapses
  • 10:03 a.m., Hijacked flight United Flight 93 crashes into a field in Shanksville, Pa.
  • 10:28 a.m., World Trade Center’s North Tower collapses

The department also plans to hoist a large American flag from a ladder truck from sunrise to sunset that day.
