High school sports roundup: Amos Glenn, Freeport football dominate Quaker Valley; North Catholic, UAC also win
Freeport running back Amos Glenn scored two touchdowns, including one on a 91-yard kickoff return, to lead the host Yellowjackets to a 44-12 win over Quaker Valley on Saturday, one of three local games postponed from Friday due to severe weather.
Glenn gained 130 yards rushing.
The 'Jackets, who led 16-0 at halftime, received a pair of rushing touchdowns from quarterback Drew Ross while Owen Neistein also scored on the ground.
Freeport (2-1) visits Deer Lakes on Friday.
North Catholic 33, Blackhawk 32 — The Trojans scored 13 points in the fourth quarter to overcome a 12-point deficit and earn their first win of the season.
The first of those scores came from Christian Naylor on a 16-yard run. The winning touchdown was a 47-yard pass snagged by Jack White from quarterback Joey Felitsky with a little more than two minutes left in the game.
North was down 10-0 in the first quarter before Felitsky connected with Will Waskiewicz and Ryker Kennedy on consecutive touchdown passes.
Tom Arth added a score on a short run in the third quarter.
Felitsky passed for 238 yards and three touchdowns.
The Trojans (1-2) host Quaker Valley on Friday.
Union/A-C Valley 21, Keystone 0 — All of the scoring came in the second half of this District 9, Region 2 showdown in Knox.
Quarterback Owen Bish passed 7 yards to Christian Salizzoni for the first touchdown. Bish, who ran for 185 yards in the game, later added a scoring run, and Jorge Reyes scored, as well.
Bish also intercepted a pass on defense.
The Falcon Knights (2-1) host Kane on Friday.
Aubrey Taylor scored the game-winning goal in overtime of Karns City’s 4-3 victory over DuBois. Katelyn VanDyke, Aubrey Price and Phoebe Brandon each had a goal and assist for the Gremlins, while Hanna Dailey chipped in a helper.
Butler 3, Mercer 0 — Jess Calhoun had a goal and assist for the Golden Tornado. Ava Soley and Ella Nichols each scored, and Lucia Leyland dished out two assists.
Justin Garvey and Arthur Mendonca each scored two goals as North Catholic dispatched Burrell 6-2 in a section match. Brody Kennedy had a goal and assist, and Michael Riley also scored.
Seneca 3, Slippery Rock 2 — Jesse Gahring and Max Kovacik teamed up twice, with Gahring dishing to Kovacik for two goals, in Slippery Rock’s loss.
Seneca Valley beat Spring-Ford 3-1. No stats were provided.
