Red, White & Blue Cross Country Classic: Freeport’s Michael Braun wins 2A race, plus photos from meet

Several local teams competed Saturday in White Oak, Westmoreland County, in the Red, White & Blue Cross Country Classic.

Freeport, Karns City, Knoch, Mars, North Catholic and Seneca Valley all ran in the second major invitational of the high school cross country season.

Freeport’s Michael Braun won the boys Class 2A race in 15 minutes, 49.3 seconds, more than six seconds faster than Quaker Valley’s Clark LaLomia. Knoch’s Carter French finished eighth in 16:25.6, and Tyler Carroll (North Catholic) came in ninth in 16:31 to round out the local Top 10 finishers.

In the team standings, North Catholic’s boys finished sixth in 2A, and the girls finished third.

North Catholic’s Caroline Sell had the best finish amongst locals in the Class 2A girls race, coming in 10th in 20:10.8.

Seneca Valley’s Max Smith was the top local runner in the boys 3A race, finishing eighth in 16:04.3. SV teammate Paige Damico finished 22nd in the girls 3A race in 19:53.1.

Seneca Valley boys finished seventh in 3A, and the girls finished eighth.
