Harry Ennis

On Thursday, Sept. 5, 2024, Harry Williams Ennis, 91, of Harmony, passed away peacefully at 11:40 p.m. at UPMC Passavant Hospital, McCandless Township. He was surrounded by members of his family.

Harry was born in Kingston, Pa., on Feb. 12, 1933, the only child of his loving parents, Harry Snover Ennis Jr. and Gwen Gower (Williams) Ennis.

Harry graduated from Kingston High School in 1950, and attended Penn State University for two years before completing his college education at Wilkes College, graduating in 1955. He worked for Johns-Manville Corporation in Manville, N.J., and then in Zelienople, finishing his career as plant manager. In retirement, he served the Western Pennsylvania Golf Association for 25 years as a course evaluator and was head timer for the Seneca Valley track and field teams.

A 50-year member of the Zelienople Rotary Club, Harry was instrumental in starting the Rotary Scholarship, served twice as president, and was honored as a Paul Harris Fellow. An avid athlete and sportsman, Harry golfed for most of his life including on many courses in Scotland. He and His wife, Gwen, enjoyed many years of travel. They were members of North Branch Reformed Church in New Jersey and later St. Peter’s Reformed Church in Zelienople.

He is survived by his wife of more than 67 years, Gwen Elizabeth (Jones) Ennis of Harmony. Harry also is survived by his children and grandchildren, Susan Ennis of Harmony; Nancy Sargent, her husband, Chip, and their son, Ryan, all of Cranberry Township; Janet Bahramrad and her husband, Bijan, of Avalon, Pa.; and Harry T. Ennis of Glen Ellyn, Ill., and his children, Christian of Milwaukee, Wis., and Kelsey of Ann Arbor, Mich.

ENNIS — Friends of Harry Williams Ennis, who died Thursday, Sept. 5, 2024, will be received from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday at BOYLAN FUNERAL HOME, 324 E. Grandview Ave., Zelienople. The celebration of life service will be private.
