Saturday events made possible by dedicated community leaders

Anyone who says Butler County doesn't have enough to do has never been here on the second weekend of September. From Friday through Sunday evening, there was no lack of places to go or things to experience right here.

Sprankle's Octoberfest kicked off Friday and ran through Sunday evening, and the Saxonburg Artisan Market brought visitors to the borough's Main Street on Saturday and Sunday.

Also this weekend, Herman Volunteer Fire Company celebrated its 75th anniversary, and in Cranberry Township, pups cooled off in the pool before it closed for the year.

On Sunday, a similar event for dog lovers was planned for Alameda Waterpark. The event called Poolside Pups saw dog owners bring their furry friends to play and enjoy the water.

Further, car enthusiasts enjoyed themselves at the East Butler Sports Complex Car Show on Sunday afternoon at the East Butler Baseball fields.

And that’s just a snapshot of the weekend.

We applaud everyone who made these end-of-summer events a success. Community gatherings like these come at the expense of people’s time. Careful, intentional planning was put into these events by people who care about Butler County.

One of those people, Doug Sprankle, owner of Sprankle's Neighborhood Market, was named the William A. Morgan Jr. Entrepreneur of the Year honoree last week. He was recognized for his community-focused leadership, reflected by events such as Sprankle’s Octoberfest.

We thank those like Sprankle who make Butler County a better place to live.
