James S. Peters, 78, of Duncansville, Pa., passed away peacefully on Sunday, Sept. 8, 2024, surrounded by his family.

He was born in Butler, son of the late Carl A. and Margaret (Groves) Peters.

Jim graduated from East Brady High School in 1964 and earned an associate degree while serving in the U.S. Navy.

He served in the U.S. Army Reserve for seven years, then enlisted in the U.S. Navy and retired after 20 years as a chief petty officer.

Jim attended Berean Baptist Church.

He enjoyed fishing, country music, traveling, entrepreneurship and vacationing in Key West.

Surviving are his wife of 47 years, Evelyn (Jornales); five sons, Daniel and wife, Jennifer, Jimmie and wife, Laura, Darren and wife, Danielle, Alex and wife, Jessica, and Warren, all of Hollidaysburg; 13 grandchildren, Grant, Olivia, Clark, Mila, Penelope, Cash, Paisley, Lucas, Raelyn, Kyla, Elijah, Krew and Winter; and two sisters, Judith Makray and Linda Switzer.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Carl Peters Jr.

PETERS — Friends of James S. Peters, who died Sunday, Sept. 8, 2024, will be received from 10 a.m. to noon Thursday at SORGE FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORY, 422 N. Juniata St., Hollidaysburg, Pa., where a funeral service will immediately follow at noon, with Pastors Andrew Hadden and Barry Fry officiating.

Interment with full military honors will be at Carson Valley Cemetery.
