Members of the Cranberry Township Volunteer Fire Company and other law enforcement personnel unfurl a large American Flag to be hung from a boom outside the fire station in remembrance of Sept. 11, 2001, on Wednesday, Sept. 11. Morgan Phillips/Butler Eagle

Right at sunrise, a large flag was hoisted high, where it will fly above the Cranberry Township Volunteer Fire Company for the duration of Wednesday, Sept. 11, in remembrance of Sept. 11, 2001.

Members of the fire department gathered at 6:30 a.m. to unfurl the flag, and waited in the chilly weather until just 7 a.m. to lift the red, white and blue. Taps were played over a speaker at the fire company’s 9/11 memorial, where about two dozen people gathered.

Throughout the day, taps will sound at the location.

The flag will be lowered at around sunset, with people gathering at 7:10 p.m. this evening.
