Police Reports
The following items were collected from various police departments.
Aug. 20 — Owen E. Helwig, 19, of Mars, was charged with misdemeanor reckless endangerment related to a June 22 incident on Warrendale Road. Police said Helwig tailgated another driver, then passed in a no passing zone and almost hit oncoming traffic.
Aug. 20 — Makayla N. Manion, 22, of Gibsonia, was charged with misdemeanor DUI and drug paraphernalia possession related to a July 22 vehicle crash at Myoma and Mars Evans City roads. Police said Manion hit multiple mailboxes, drove up an embankment and hit a tree, which rolled her vehicle multiple times. Police said they found marijuana, a glass pipe and alcohol in her vehicle. Police said Manion was taken by ambulance to the hospital, where a blood test showed her blood-alcohol content at 0.160%. In Pennsylvania, 0.08% is the legal limit.
Aug. 8 — Robert W. Felton, 31, of West Mifflin, was charged with felony counts of forgery, possessing counterfeit devices, possessing stolen property, theft and theft by mail related to a May 10 investigation at Mars Bethel Golf Course. Police said Felton stole a check for $2,561, changed its recipient to himself and cashed it.
Aug. 7 — Zarek C. Simkovich, 26, of Mars, was charged with misdemeanor DUI related to a July 20 traffic stop near Stonebridge Drive in Adams Township. Police said field sobriety tests showed Simkovich was impaired, but he later refused to have his breath tested.
9:56 a.m. Aug. 20 — Police responded to a two-vehicle crash on Crisswell Road. Police said Gregg A. Gainer, 61, of West Virginia, pulled a dump truck out of a construction site and hit the driver’s side of a vehicle driven by Karen Getz, 75, of Butler. Police said no injuries were reported but Getz’s vehicle was towed from the scene. Gainer was cited for careless driving.
9:12 a.m. Aug. 20 — Police responded to a two-vehicle crash on Picklegate Bridge. Police said Amanda Thomas, 46, of Butler, drove her vehicle into the back of a vehicle driven by William Bowser, 62, of Butler. Police said no injuries were reported at the scene, but Thomas’ vehicle was towed from the scene.
4:41 a.m. Aug. 19 — Police charged Raymond Ondic Jr., 37, of Butler, with public drunkenness after police were dispatched for a man trying to break into Edward’s Ice Cream.
2:33 p.m. Aug. 18 — Police responded to a two-vehicle crash on Whitestown Road at Eberhart Road. Police said Lawrence Krajnikovich, 80, of Butler, turned left in front of another vehicle driven by Brian M. Bowers, 28, of Mars. Police said both vehicles needed towed from the scene. Krajnikovich received a warning for a left turn violation.
Aug. 18 — A mother and daughter were both charged related to an Aug. 17 domestic incident on Bradmoor Lane. Both Karen D. Fisher, 64, and Ellen D. Elliott, 39, both of Butler Township, were charged with misdemeanor simple assault. Police said the pair accused each other of hitting and pushing one another during an argument.
11:18 p.m. Aug. 17 — Police responded to a three-vehicle crash on Route 68 at Duffy Road. Police said Elana Schramm, 23, of Glenshaw, drove her vehicle into the rear of one driven by Blaise Wheeler, 31, of Butler, and pushed that vehicle into one driven by Jennifer Areno, 50, of Butler. Police said all vehicles were towed from the scene, and Schramm’s and Wheeler’s passengers were taken by ambulance for evaluation.
6:25 p.m. Aug. 17 — Police responded to a two-vehicle crash on North Duffy Road in Center Township. Police said a 2014 Ford Focus exited its lane causing a crash with a 2022 Volkswagen Atlas. Police cited the Ford’s driver with speeding. The names of the drivers were not listed in the public report.
