Shapiro updates gun violence executive order

This month, Gov. Josh Shapiro signed Executive Order 2024-02 to reestablish the Pennsylvania Office of Gun Violence Prevention in an effort to solve the state’s problem with gun violence.

The office was established in 2019, four years before the White House encouraged other states to establish their own similar offices as part of its Safer States Initiative.

According to official statistics, more than 1,600 Pennsylvanians die from gun-related injuries each year. However, homicides in Pennsylvania decreased by 16 percent in 2023 compared to the prior year.
