Herman VFC kept busy with Route 422 crashes Sunday

SUMMIT TWP — The Herman Volunteer Fire Company vehicles had barely pulled back into the station after responding to a three-vehicle crash Sunday afternoon, Sept. 15, when a dispatch call came in for another crash on the same road, Route 422.

Rob Shuler, chief of Herman Volunteer Fire Company, said two people were transported to Butler Memorial Hospital from the first crash, which took place around 5 p.m. Sunday at the intersection of Route 422 and Bonniebrook Road. Although the fire department had to pry a door off one of the vehicles to get its passenger out, Shuler said the injuries were minor to moderate. All three vehicles were towed from the scene, Shuler said.

The department left that scene before 7 p.m., which is about when the next crash came in.

The crash that took place just before 7 p.m. Sunday involved one vehicle, which was down an embankment at the intersection of Route 422 and Protzman Road. The vehicle was traveling in the eastbound lane.

The driver of the vehicle was not severely injured, and was not transported from the scene of the crash. The vehicle was towed from the scene.

State police also responded to the crash. Crews began departing from the scene at around 7:45 p.m.
