Mike Kelly-led task force issues statement on new assassination attempt of former President Trump
The task force led by U.S. Rep. Mike Kelly, R-16th, to investigate the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump at the Butler Farm Show grounds on July 13 has issued a statement regarding another assassination attempt on the Republican presidential candidate.
The joint statement on behalf of the 13-member task force was issued Sunday following what the FBI is calling an apparent assassination attempt on the man who served as the 45th president of the United States.
“The Task Force is monitoring this attempted assassination of former President Trump in West Palm Beach this afternoon,” the task force’s chairman Kelly and ranking member Jason Crow, D-Colo., said in a joint statement. “We have requested a briefing with the U.S. Secret Service about what happened and how security responded.
“We are thankful that the former President was not harmed, but remain deeply concerned about political violence and condemn it in all of its forms. The Task Force will share updates as we learn more.”
Secret Service agents fired on a gunman who was in the bushes, and the suspect was arrested after fleeing the scene. Two backpacks and a rifle were found left behind.
The attempt comes just over two months after an assassination attempt in Butler County, where a gunman fired at Trump during a campaign rally. Trump’s ear was grazed by a bullet, a Buffalo Township resident Corey Comperatore, was killed protecting his wife and daughter, and two other people were seriously injured.
